Here's a cool story about loving the celebrity and then meeting the celebrity. Does the masterfully-managed image match the actual person? How many of the dating rumors, dieting rumors, mental health rumors and overall personality styling match the reality? Jody dedicates her life -- the clothes she buys, the posters on her bedroom wall, the magazines she reads, the music she loves, the money she earns -- to a Chicago rock star in a band that tours with a stop in Cardiff, Wales, an hour from her house. Imagine her level of anticipation as the concert date draws near.Another component of this story: having a best friend of the opposite sex. Two years this friendship has held up. Jody half-assumes Mac is gay. The garage-dwelling rocker has a funny remark about this: in those high school aptitude tests you took where you did so poorly, was one of the topics 'having a clue'? Because Jody does have an interesting connection to the reality that takes place around her. Perhaps that is part of her artistic temperament. If there is a human being designed to complement the personality that rocker Jackson has to offer, Jody would be it. And I wish that relationship had had some legs. The claim that an unhappy childhood has left Jackson with no empathy or ability to love another person. . .doubtful. Mac is lovable, admirable. . .but he is not the go-after-it type usually starring in American-based love stories. The ambiguously gay male may be a new paradigm for Americans to embrace.

Rockoholic CJ Skuse Books Reviews
Why I Picked It Up
I honestly picked this one up because it promised rock-stars and romance. I had assumed that it meant a rock-star romance. My mistake.
Plot
I really did not enjoy this book. In fact, the only reason that I was able to finish it was because of sheer force of will and the fact that it could make me laugh due to the pure stupidity of the characters. This novel felt like a soap opera to me; a train wreck. The plot itself was unrealistic. She kidnaps a rock star because he’s high on drugs and thinks that her candy bar is a knife? Okay…not too bad. But the fact that a sixteen year old was able to hide him for weeks without anyone really becoming suspicious and finding him? We’re not talking trained operatives that make people new identities in witness protection. We’re talking an extremely stupid girl. In addition to that, the plot was absolutely dull. I had no interest, really, in what happened to the characters. There wasn’t really any conflict even though we were lead to believe there would be some with the manager at multiple points during the novel. But alas, no.
Leading Lady
“‘Mediocre. That’s what he said. He knew from that night on he didn’t want to be mediocre anymore. I just…wanted that to happen to me. I wanted to have that kind of night at the concert. And I wanted Jackson to notice me. He’s not just some rock dude, Mac. I love him. I guess that doesn’t matter much now though, does it? I’m never going to meet him now.’”
That brings me to the characters. Jody was the main female character, kidnapper-extraordinaire. She was absolutely stupid. She admitted it, other characters admitted it. In addition to her mindless thinking, she was obsessed with Jackson to the point of insanity. She was the super-groupie and it was hella creepy to read. She thought she was justified in kidnapping him because she only heard three songs before passing out. Are you kidding me? I couldn’t relate to her character. I really couldn’t find sympathy for her or anything that I liked about her.
“I’m going to starve myself today so I’m as thin as possible when Jackson sees me.”
Leading Male
“‘Burger,’ he mumbles, drool oozing from his mouth. He slurps it back up to speak. ‘I want meat. Bacon. Meat.’”
Then there was Jackson. One thing that I’d like to mention was that we got some ages coming out of nowhere and smacking you in the face Jackson was 27 and Jody was 16. After that, any interactions between them gave me the creeps. Jackson was spoiled and a flat out jerk. He was whiny and a druggie. However, he is the only one that showed an ounce of character growth in this novel. But that may be because he was off his mind-altering drugs. You really couldn’t tell.
Mac was the only character in this novel that I liked. He was the responsible one, the one with a brain. He was the normal to the indefinable amounts of crazy in this book. Sucks for us, we didn’t really see too much of him because Jody was focused on Jackson. Bummer, too, because it would have made the novel better.
Romance
The romance in this book. Ha. Ha. There really wasn’t any until the last chapter. I mean we had an obsession for the duration of the novel, but no romance. And the little romance that we had was not with the creepy druggie rock star. I can’t even say if I liked it or not because it was barely there.
Conclusion
Rockoholic was a book that I was excited for but was severely let down by. With an unrealistic plot and horrible characters, I wouldn’t pick this one up if I were you.
Where to start. Well first the book was horribly written. If this book was meant for teenagers will let me tell you this is one book that you will be fine without reading. A waste of my money is what this book is.
This book was nit that great I only got through less than half of the book. If you are thinking about getting this book don't it's incredibly boring and I had to stop reading before the half mark. Rockoholic didn't have any base or plot to it and if you aren't from the UK it is semi-hard to follow.
Hilarious and super heartwarming, if someone asks for a rock and roll book this is the one I recommend!
I like a lot about this book.
Some of the things Jackson puts Jodie through, like his diva antics made me want to keep reading on. He also drove me crazy. Then when he was free to leave her, he wouldn’t. A teenage fan-girl had him wrapped around her finger.
I could figure out how the story would go from early on, but that’s what I wanted. This book followed a pattern, but worked. The characters didn’t do anything surprising or out-of character. This played along comfortably. I am surprised the ending went the way it did. I did expect Jackson to want to change plans again.
I would say that the story didn’t really start until almost twenty percent into the book. Every thing in the early chapters gets repeated in dialogue or action so there really wasn’t a need for it.
It wasn't complex and involving, but it worked as an easy fun read.
