Redwall Brian Jacques 9781862301382 Books

I bought the first three of these as Kindle Editions only to realize a few days later that the Redwall audio books are in the current "Summer Reading" sale at Audible (ends on the 27th of August). I had started reading the first book and was impressed, so I bought the first three audio books. Wow, this full cast recording moves pretty quickly long this action-packed adventure tale. The descriptions are amazing, especially the ones that have anything to do with food. As a young-at-heart listener, I enjoyed this much more than I actually thought I would (I wasn't totally unfamiliar with it, I'd seen a few episodes of the animated series before Netflix pulled it). There are lot of great themes here: bravery in the face of adversity, friendship, loyalty, and so on. And the villain... Wow, is he one nasty brute (and his followers aren't much better). There is some fantasy violence, along with battle violence. Some characters die (yes, even some of the "good guys"). For parents, I don''t don't think there is anything to be too concerned with on this title. One could always preview it before given to kids, or read or listen to it with them.

As far as the narration. At times, it was a bit over-the-top. However, one must remember this is a fantasy adventure written for a younger audience--and thus--recorded for one. I really liked most of the performance. Once in a while, I had to go back a bit because I didn't understand something fully the first time due to accents, but not a whole lot. I do wish there wasn't such a huge rash of gaps in the Audible Editions. When I first counted the remaining ones that were available, I swear I counted sixteen. When I went back over to check out the rest of a few days time, there were fifteen. Since I purchased, one has been removed and I now have a broken library icon on the Kindle Fire and Audible for it. I hope the Audible gaps are eventually filled in. I guess I'll listen where i can and read the other volumes as Kindle Editions otherwise.

Redwall Brian Jacques 9781862301382 Books Reviews

Every time I read the Redwall series I am transported to a wonderful world of the imagination. This series will stimulate and captivate whether you are nine or ninety-nine. Redwall is definitely a five star book.
My son learned to read effectively by checking out the Redwall series from the library. He was totally enamored with the characters and storyline. He is 40 years old now and remembers the books fondly. I purchased this book as a gift for my 9 year old grandson. So why the two stars? The book came today with the cover torn and wrinkled. It was delivered in a box so must have been picked from the shelf in that condition. It saddened me. I realize it's a busy season, but more care should be taken to get products to purchasers in the best condition possible.
Redwall has been one of my favorite books and series since I was a kid. No matter how old I get, it never gets old. I love that regardless of your age, Redwall is a book that is enjoyable for everyone. I have friends who read it as kids and are still periodically reading them as adults. I am fully convinced that Redwall is and will continue to be a classic.

Redwall, the first book in the series, revolves around the adventures of a young mouse named Matthias. Matthias lives at Redwall Abbey, a peaceful sort of place dedicated to helping woodland creatures in need and living in peace in Mossflower. All this is shattered when the notorious rat Cluny the Scourge shows up on the scene, dead set on conquering the abbey and enslaving its inhabitants. It's up to Matthias to step up and lead his fellow creatures to victory over the rat and his horde, with the help of relics left behind by the deceased Martin, the Warrior of Redwall.

I'm very glad I stumbled upon this old favorite and got the chance to read Redwall again! Highly recommended to all ages! I borrowed this book, and therefore was not required nor asked to write a review, nor a positive one at that. I was not compensated for this review.
A young mouse lives in a beautiful monastery called Redwall. All the animals living in the monastery cooperate with each other. Young Matthias wants to become a renowned warrior like the famous Martin the Warrior. When an evil rat named Cluny the Scourge decides to attack Redwall, Matthias May get his chance.

This is the first in an engaging series of novels about the adventures of the creatures of Redwall Abbey. Middle grade readers to adults will find this book a fun read.
Redwall by Brian Jacques is the first installment of the series Redwall. Redwall Abbey is home to peaceful mice, and other woodland creatures. When their abbey is threatened by Cluny the Scourge, the peaceful residents of Redwall Abbey have to defend, and fight for what they hold dear.

I absolutely adored this story! The creatures came to life on the pages, and the world building is quite beautiful. This story grabbed me, and wouldn't let go. There were moments when I laughed out loud, and there were moments when my heart was broken. There were a few grammatical errors, but did not hinder my flow of reading at all. This is a wonderful middle grade fantasy story; I highly recommend it.
In recent years, so many students in my college writing classes, especially young men, have credited “Redwall” for inspiring them to read that I decided to sample the book. Now I understand the appeal. Brian Jacques’s novel is inventive, well paced, and imaginative, full of ingratiating heroes, despicable villains, and some ambiguous figures as well. Its structure is admirable too, with story arcs sufficiently compact to provide many satisfying moments while building toward a dramatic conclusion. There is genuine violence and some heartache in the book, but it is congruent with the epic genre and prepares young readers for “The Lord of the Rings” and, maybe some day, even “Beowulf.”
